i understand your focus has shifted
our names have erased themselves from notebook pages
much like a temporary tattoo abandons skin
a little too soon
i wasn’t owed permission
i just needed a warning
or
someone to teach me how to grieve
“i miss you”
“are you visiting?”
and you told me you’d
“be there soon!”
but it appears you forgot
three crucial words..
how could you forget?
every last
text
call
hug
“i love you”
then i suppose, it’s true
“i promise”
lost its value, too.
