Why Can't We Be Weightless
Why does the weight of life
Pull down tightly
So tightly
Cut off the circulation
Like a knife
It makes us drag our knuckles
But smile nonetheless
It makes us pretend everything
Is lace and ruffles
Like we know what’s best
When we’re just drowning
Under the weight
Of our bright orange vest
The life preserver
We were given
When all we wanted
Was rest
Pull down tightly
So tightly
Cut off the circulation
Like a knife
It makes us drag our knuckles
But smile nonetheless
It makes us pretend everything
Is lace and ruffles
Like we know what’s best
When we’re just drowning
Under the weight
Of our bright orange vest
The life preserver
We were given
When all we wanted
Was rest
