Vindication

At first glance your hope began to dangle
and  my "new-to-you" voice was reassuring
Your emotions untie and untangle
but your nightmare is reoccurring

With just one kiss of my unknowing lips
you ran wild with false intentions
but I'm not responsible for faith renewed
and your state of mind was never mentioned

You were frail and fragile but not on the surface
your tough exterior was just a facade
your acting served no spectacular purpose
nor do you deserve my apathy or applause

I'm sorry I should have known better
when you started spouting cries of cupid
you told me that you were not looking for love
and I bought it as quickly as you did

I'm sorry you wasted your tears on me
and I'm sorry you cut your wrists
I'm sorry for the torture that I couldn't see
I'm so sorry for the selfish trysts

The truth of her plight would have served more proper
and I could have brought this all to a halt
If I would have known I could have tried to stop her
God forgive me, this was not my fault!
