See Through

Look upon this face and tell me what you see
Do you see beauty or the potential of what I could've been?
When you glance upon my eyes, can you feel the sadness,
Or should I open the blinds wider until you see hidden madness?
Do you love my lips or would you prefer them shut?
Can you see the dried trails of tears formed from words that cut?
Look at me damn it, look until you have seen through me
Through pretense, the aching facade and the lies.
Look as though you wish to tear me apart,
Layer for layer
Through the highs, lows and even through the laughs
Nevermind the heart- look until you see through it
And there, in the pits of a shattered soul, will you find it
The place where a little girl plays, vibrant
Who just wants to live and feel whole

Author's Note
I wrote this poem after I realized how fucked up I had become and how I'm so different from the person I portray myself as. Ultimately I thought of my younger self, the small part of me that was untainted.
