Wondering Heart

My Black Heart of Innocence was discovered
Through the interlocked gaze we shared
I didn't even know what it meant
To have someone look at me so
The purest of innocence and desire
Erupted from my very soul
The second our energies intertwined
What does it mean to feel so much
When emptiness is all I have ever known
What does it mean to protect
When I have only been exposed to harm
How is it that you have reached me
In the depths of my despair
What promises have been told
Without ever being spoken
You seem to be navigating the minefield
That leads to this entrapped heart
But are you ready to disable the timebomb
Or endure the shrapnel from my past
Will you trust that I guide you safely to me
Or will you set off the chain reaction
That leads to the ruination of what we might be
Only time will tell what our roles are in
The lives that we have gently brushed together
Ever so slightly like we are both scared
Of the answer to the question we dare not ask
Keep me in your mind as I find my way to you
And guide you to the destination you have asked
Time and time again, where does this lead
