Light is Out There Somewhere

"The light is out there somewhere."

I keep telling myself that. If nothing else than to convince me it is the truth. Even though, looking around at the hole of darkness I find myself in it is very hard to believe.

Everywhere I turn I am surrounded, smothered and squashed by blackness. It leaves me no room for freedom as its tentacles tighten around my life squeezing out what little air remains, leaving me powerless to nothing more than its mercy.

What screams for help I have let loose have done nothing more but fall on deaf ears. Doctors have come forward with supposed remedies which, I will admit, have shown twinkling's of light temporarily but the darkness has overwhelming power and has always managed to overcome the brightness.

It is the day’s end and I close my eyes in sleep, my only escape from the dark reality. For at least a brief time I can see the light and live a life of happiness until the blackness hits again. I pull my blankets around me, partly for warmth but mostly as a shield. I will not allow entry.

I mumble to myself as I drift off to sleep “The light is out there somewhere.” If only that were true!
