John Smith lately

- even though
well aware of time's relativity,
he stresses "lately" -

has no worries
no stress whatsoever
not a care in the world.

But, a thought crosses his mind

- as occasionally did
throughout
his evenly distributed past -

he has no ambition
no purpose in life, at all
nothing to look forward to.

unless he climbs a step, any step,
