Exile (Taylor Swift Competition Entry)
Heart beat lodged in my throat,
Like words on the tip of my tongue
— I swallow hard.
Once, I told tales of tempestuous truth,
And they went scattering
With the urgency of a town crier
And the liveliness of a court jester.
Crying wolf has left me lonely,
And the fairytale has ended
In a blaze
Far more grim than Grimm's gab.
My King uncrowned,
We have disgraced
Every promise made.
Huffing and puffing
Until we are blue and breathless
— I breathe hard.
The solemn silence
In this Hall
Echoes with long gone whispers
Through giddy giggles
Vowing till death do us part
As if to mock the very foundation
Of our home.
A part of me and one of you
Has died, after all, stuck in limbo
— still reaching for one another's touch
in the land of nonexistence
Like words on the tip of my tongue
— I swallow hard.
Once, I told tales of tempestuous truth,
And they went scattering
With the urgency of a town crier
And the liveliness of a court jester.
Crying wolf has left me lonely,
And the fairytale has ended
In a blaze
Far more grim than Grimm's gab.
My King uncrowned,
We have disgraced
Every promise made.

The solemn silence
