Crystalline
A crystalline drought structure
Ionized the skies,
Crystallized -
Comprised in only the blues -
So blue,
The sky became grey -
Transforming the day
Into an odyssey,
A diaspora, declared
Right there
Where they were
Right then
No pause for contemplation,
Inbuilt conviction -
Psychic
Consideration:
A tribe,
Sworn to protect and defend one another;
On any other
Day,
This oath might be
Something
You just
Say,
But not today…
And as the hoofs dragged,
And dust
Became exhumed in plumes,
The first collapsed, perhaps
Like
Explosive demolition
In
Ions of implosion,
But then
The others joined in
In
Defense and protection
Staining the Earth
In ardor/valor -
Crystallized in my eyes, pristine
Crystalline.

A friend sent me this article about the severe drought in Kenya, which contained a photograph of these giraffes, lying dead in the dirt, almost in a sort of Mandela pattern.
I immediately felt compelled.
When I thought of an approach to this subject matter, it felt extremely grotesque. Giraffes are majestic creatures.
And all animals are magical.
But because of the grotesque nature of the subject matter, I decided that is why I should delve further.
I scrapped my initial approach, something I very rarely do.
I like to dial in or hone in on the wave of inspiration and see it through.
I like the organic feel of such a thing.
For both the writer and perhaps the reader.
For me, writing has always been:
Penetrating and maintaining hold of the vision.
For a variety of reasons... Like an extensive list...
It can be very difficult to bend but not break, when it comes to writing.
This write was gratifying for me...
In a different way, perhaps, than other writes.
I guess it's because...
If you say or think or determine... Yes, determine:
"I'm going to write this."
Then you must write that, to maintain and strengthen your resolve,
lest you do the opposite, and degrade and weaken your resolve.
All writing remains the property of the author. Don't use it for any purpose without their permission.
