The Tunnel

there is a tunnel
where she sings
as light enters
to kiss her rose stained cheeks
brightness echos
through her tunnel
where freedom rings

there is a tunnel
where she sleeps
when storms trap her
in a winter freeze
a tunnel only there
to keep her golden hair
dry, but never clean

there is a tunnel
that locks her voice in
that doesn’t let the light in
a tunnel that compels a cry
built to break her
and watch her die

it gets her, every time
because she can’t resist crawling inside
