Ribbon

What innocence there is
In love young and light
It blossoms like a flower
It fills the air between
My heart is ever tied to yours
Like a ribbon upon my finger
Of scarlet like my blood
White as my spirit
And gold as is my soul
Unhindered by time
Unchanged by passing distance
It stands solid as the earth
Untouched by life's experience
Yet hampered by doubt
Frayed by fire
Nearly claimed in the darkness
The ribbon loosens across chasms
As the ground slips beneath us
And the Earth crumbles away
And somehow we fall together
Still caught in our embrace
And we are gone
