Button Eyes
Watching
Silent vigil atop the shelf
Cluttered with jars of every sort
Smooth blackness staring, blank emotionless
Striking fear without raising a finger
Blood trickled over rough skin
Black eyes watching
Unblinking
Blank
Passed between hands
Stitched and torn
Again and again
Pricking at rough skin
With needles and knives
Each drawing its blood
Then fading to night
Secret words do recite
In whispers and cries
Till no ones left standing
Just those black button eyes
Silent vigil atop the shelf
Cluttered with jars of every sort
Smooth blackness staring, blank emotionless
Striking fear without raising a finger
Blood trickled over rough skin
Black eyes watching
Unblinking
Blank
Passed between hands
Stitched and torn
Again and again
Pricking at rough skin
With needles and knives
Each drawing its blood
Then fading to night
Secret words do recite
In whispers and cries
Till no ones left standing
Just those black button eyes
