Window

I made coffee and sat beside the window,
Not doing much at all on a fine, boring day.
I had no luck at work, tripped three times, but
As always, I still feel like I might give it a go.

The sun had risen earlier than scheduled;
I’m always flabbergasted by its magnificence.
It almost wraps the earth in gold—
Damn, the glorious light is just so priceless.

The sky is blue in the windy afternoon;
Kites soar smoothly before the coming monsoon,
And kids play, hopping around like zombies,
Realizing I’ve missed how beautiful this world is.

The sky folded for another dark page,
Twinkling stars and the moon shining since ages.
The wind blew through my hair, and I’m almost late—
Oh no, I’ve spent the time procrastinating!

I stood up, grabbed my dress and red ribbons,
Splashed expensive perfume on the fabric.
Too late, but I need to see myself in the mirror,
Knowing that since yesterday, I’ve gotten a little older.

For those long hours, I just watched the weather,
Sinking into my mind that the world is so much better.
And my thundering thoughts? I finally saw that blessing—
It took so long, but I’m grateful that I’m breathing.
