vices

for dad  collection - 08 / 16 / 21

It’s  strange —
how  i  used  to  resent  my  father
or  his  vices,

when  now
i  understand  why.
Now,
i  understand —

how  the  smoke  embraces  you
like  a  lover
and  how
the  alcohol — fills  in  the  cracks
like  grout .

But  then  again,
lovers  don’t  last  forever
and  tiles
need  re-grouting.

Author's Note
as rupi  kaur  said,
" an  alcoholic  parent  does  not  exist

simply
an  alcoholic  that  could  not  stay  sober
long  enough to  raise  their  kids "
