Becoming Small

you made me feel
so unwanted
like it was a chore
for you to love me

rejected, neglected
a child left alone
to figure things out
all on my own

you cast me aside
so I would find
crevices to fold
into and hide

where I could become
small and unnoticed and
silent
for hours on end

until you decided
it was finally time
to go back home

it’s time to go

now I shed old clothes
scratchy sunday dresses
I never fit into

I am rid of you
