Image for the poem the coming of age of innocence

the coming of age of innocence

i came pristine
         from salt lake city
                    swathed and swaddled
                              upon my mother's breast
knowing not life was a test
my tongue was clean
          truth craved no pity
                    while i toddled
                              in youthful innocence
                              owing life no recompense

my first lie told
          me at my second
                    celebration
                              of liberty on earth
                              when truth withheld his mirth
my thirst for gold
          my young lust beckoned
                    alteration
                              of wisdom that should chide
                              my prostituted pride

i dread the dark
          wherein my passion
                    consummated
                              by lecherous intent
may leave me cold and spent
stir not my spark
          touch not my ration
                    consecrated
                              i wait for him alone
of whose bones i am bone
