The Trick of Pumpkin Manor
Grinning, Mr. Saint James rises from his chair and walks over
to the wooden doors.
Standing in front of them, he opens them both at the same
time with a flourish and stands back.
As the three boys move closer, they see an old piece of paper
filled with printed words, floating inside an infinite looking
space flickering with brilliant orange light.
CAESAR
Wow! How’s it doing that?
DEON
You a magician or something,
mister?
MR. SAINT JAMES
Something. One of you must read it
out loud.
CAESAR
I’ll do it.
Close up on Caesar as moves closer.
CAESAR (CONT'D)
Beware for this is
The Pumpkin Scroll.
Once read out loud your
souls will behold.
For within these walls
a curse crawls.
You must find the clock
and turn it thrice,
to ward off the chill
of killer mice.
My pumpkins are precious,
they can help in your fight.
But be sure to complete your
task or your face just might,
be imprisoned with your souls
on this Halloween night.
CAESAR’S POV
The scroll erupts in flames and disappears just as the wolf
jumps out of the pumpkin with the wolf carving and stands
next to Mr. Saint James.
The wolf morphs into Lilly and the three startled boys jump
back as the wind begins to howl outside.
Through the windows, we can see the trees swaying back and
forth as the shutters on the windows bang against the house
as the wind howls.
