holding

midnight hits us all different
when the moon tries to call us home
souls wander in search of freedom
tugging all the life away

the turns toss within the silence
shadows crowd down upon the day
drifting in the abandonment
the worries not willing to fade away

there's wetness on the windows
aches echoing feeling out the way
no stopping or pretending
what will go or what will stay

in darkness we hold no answers
when we're holding on to pain
