A multitude of ways to poison mind
conspire vainglorious and timid too
the mould is cast and never left behind
too much is seen with others’ standard view.
So how to reinvigorate the soul
on glancing in the mirror with distaste
to differentiate the parts from whole
and jettison the bits that irk with haste?
And here we speak of mind, not taste or style,
recalling traits of personality
that once enabled us to laugh or smile
whilst others scorn originality.
Full isolation is the latest test
for those who aim to differ from the rest.

I love the gentle essence... the sort of homage to Bukowski that runs throughout the feeling of your poem.... instilling
That our individualism, the rare and special light within in each of us... is to be adorned and of celebration, despite those who are predisposed try to dampen... only full of darkness.... to be full of gusto.... no holds barred...

Thank you for your helpful comment Bluevelvete. What you said reiterates what I was trying to say, although what I put into verse has a personal meaning for me. I was 'full of gusto' when I was younger but seem to have got lost along the way. Although as well addressed to others, the poem is as much a pep talk to myself to brighten up a bit and not be so concerned of what people think of me. Writing for my own therapy? As Dostoevsky said "moral perfectibility may be a two-edged weapon". Cuts both ways.
