Pathways
Many of the pathways I take in life will lead to nowhere
And I shall find my self there
***
I seek a far and shadowed distance
Deepening shadow 'neath the fir and pine
A place where silence speaks if you but listen
And in the silences I shall learn to hear again
And to see anew
There
Where pathways are dappled by sunlight and shadow
And colored with greens of varied hues.
What is distance to the forested hills
Which roll like the swells of a living green ocean
For one cannot travel as the crow flies here
Among twists and turns, root and stone
And tree falls lain in old growth woods
There is a rushing sound in the tree tops
As the evening breeze flutters the leaves
Sounding like rain, golden in the setting sun
Carrying bird songs from here and there
And with the passing of day, settling down
It's warm this evening too but comfortable
Flush with the greens the fullness of summer brings
I like the coming quiet as shadows grow long
The blue of the sky deepening in the dusk
Night whispers with the coming stars
What is measure to the vastness of heaven
With stars far and wide, deep as the eye can see
There is a call kindred spirit
Can you not feel it in the air
Unplug
Are you not awake
Does the hawk cry not carry weight in your soul
Or the night sky draw you in
Left and right lose their meaning
Here where east is sunrise and west sunset
And moss grows on the north of tree and stone
Opposite the warmth of the south
And I shall find my self there
