Knowledge

I have loved the books so well
But the decade that has passed
Taught me that the knowledge spell
Sometimes hurts to make it last

Through the fires that I went through
I learned things precious and true
Truths that burned into my heart
With a pain I never knew

What I lost I lost to gain
The truth that stands above all others
Without sanity my struggles
And my efforts are in vain

Fear has taught me, pain has taught me
But through joy I came to see
Even with a heart of sorrow
There is still a place for me

Now in peace a little while
Soon I know it might be taken
Just like every dream must waken

But no matter how hard it might be
I have one comfort that is true

Knowledge is what you live through
