Just a Dot on The Page
I’ve waited for any word
Just a dot on a page
But all I get is the ticking of the clock
And its 4 am on a sleepless night of the soul
And I’m tired of being awake and alone
But that’s nothing compared to the tired of hurting –
The pain that ebbs and flows
Those times when I’m almost alright
And those times when everything stops
And I tear up like I’ve been gut punched
And those are the highs and the lows
Adrift on a sea of emptiness
And I don’t know how to find myself
I’m meaningless to the one who gave everything meaning
And nothing I say or do reaches across the vastness
Of we’re through
Though, God Knows, my heart wants too
Just a dot on a page
But all I get is the ticking of the clock
And its 4 am on a sleepless night of the soul
And I’m tired of being awake and alone
But that’s nothing compared to the tired of hurting –
The pain that ebbs and flows
Those times when I’m almost alright
And those times when everything stops
And I tear up like I’ve been gut punched
And those are the highs and the lows
Adrift on a sea of emptiness
And I don’t know how to find myself
I’m meaningless to the one who gave everything meaning
And nothing I say or do reaches across the vastness
Of we’re through
Though, God Knows, my heart wants too

Dear AJ,
Reading this brings back so many situations I’ve survived through with past romances, largely one sided, mine- evidently I mistook the relationships for something more than they were to the other person.
“ I’m meaningless to the one who gave everything meaning” this phrase especially caught my attention with its raw truth. Many levels of complete relatability. And many levels of awe for your ability to write it in such an eloquent manner. H🌷

And you continue to humble me with your praise, dear H. I'm afraid shared scars lead to a merging of feelings and meanings. I hope you've found balance in your trials 🌼
I survive mine out of sheer stubbornness.

We all go through it sooner or later, the love that was, then wasn't. Thank you Journey 🌼

Great title. You really captured that emptiness and depression, with some apathy mixed in, around breaking up and missing someone with your heart and soul. The heartache is so palpable.

It was once. Can't really complain. It was sel inflicted but the writing was cathartic.

I can relate to the feeling in this spill. I know too well the pain. You beautifully expressed it.

Writing about it was half the cure. Time, the other half. Sadly, pain is a truth we all must learn.
Thank you 🌼

You're welcome. Being a poet has its advantage. We heal ourselves by spilling out pain.

So true. This is an old pain written in a different life. A remembered scar shared anew.
I much prefer to write of beauty now.

Time is instrumental in healing. It's good that you prefer to write of beauty now. Even our pain can be transmuted into something of beauty.
