first night you
were
gone
realized it was
over
went to backyard
for smoke
looked up
thought of
counting
stars
changed
mind
counted the
darkness
between
the stars
instead

I loved how stripped back in its approach this poem was. It captures a moment in its purity and is exactly the type of poem I can get behind.
Dark gold. Thank you for sharing.

I like the contrast between the title of the poem, and line I. It gives me the feeling of appearances and internal meaning, or codes and meanings, which was a subtle allusion to where the poem would go.
... A marvel of perspective as symbolism.
Deeply beautiful.

That's how heavy and dark the emotion feels. Metaphorical or not, this is pretty astounding.
Hope it got better after a while.
Outstanding work.
