Shadows of Tomorrow

“Shadows of Tomorrow”

Stricken by the pretty lightning—
The ache of memories aligning.
It is there you will see me again,
Alone, alone as I ever have been…
The wind will gather our tears
As the sun in our eyes disappears.

A stolen thought—autumn by day,
Haunted by words you never knew how to say.
This crooked embrace is all I have known—
And I cannot define which mind is my own.
In the smell of the rain, my heart deceives
A view of your eyes, which are but the leaves.

We sat in our youth in orchards of glass,
Hands clasped over graves marked ALAS.
Someday, our paths will sleep in the past;
The shadows of tomorrow we have cast
Will go, a thousand dreaming, to the sea
With all our summers that never shall be.

I came to you. My gaze, it was gone.
I witnessed your morning. So clear a dawn!
My shores lost what waves you buried here.
And I shed so dark, and so soft a tear;
As if to speak in a twilight we never will view,
As we faced each other, weeping anew.
