They Come
At the window I sit, looking out at the gloom.
I then hear a noise in the dark of the room.
Though my eyes long to see it, I know if I do,
My own mind will crack and all hell will break through.
It was not always like this, for not long ago,
I was once walking home, with the moon all aglow.
I stopped and looked up at the dark and black night,
And was suddenly seized by a horrible sight.
For up there, in the blackness, was something surreal:
A dark, evil void that began to reveal.
My knees began trembling; my eyes opened wide,
For then the void grabbed me and took me inside.
The things that I saw there, I can’t ever tell.
To do so would invite the void and its hell.
It took me to places no man should perceive,
And whispered its plans in an intricate weave.
The void asked me what I desired the most.
It showed me the shade of my dead father’s ghost.
It told me that when all the stars were aligned,
The Great Ones would come, and consume all mankind.
I screamed at the void that it would not be so.
It then put me back on the road in the snow.
The sky became light with the first rays of morn.
My weak mind had nearly been shattered and torn.
But ever since then, I have seen and heard things,
And I know of what terrible horror it brings.
The scratching of nails on the wall of my house.
The hatred of friends and the death of my spouse.
So now I just sit here, alone in my room.
I know something’s coming to hasten my doom.
I look up once more to the skies and I grin,
For I know the Great Ones are set to begin.
I then hear a noise in the dark of the room.
Though my eyes long to see it, I know if I do,
My own mind will crack and all hell will break through.
