What Do You See When You Hold Your Breath
What do you see
When the lights go out
When the darkness consumes
Makes you scream and shout
Better yet
What do you see
When you cover your ears
When the high pitched ringing
Is all you can hear
Or, wait
What do you see
When you stifle your voice
When your hands hold tight
As if they don’t have a choice
But then,
I’d want to know
What do you see
When you hold your breath
When the kaleidoscope of colors
Attacks from behind, threatens death
I see,
You’ve never tried
Purposely clearing away
Every sense, every gateway
As for me, I’ve tried them all
But the strongest by far
Is when your voice
No longer howls like a jaguar
But instead gets swallowed in a glass jar
Tap tap
It’s holding strong
So now it won’t be long
Hold your breath and hum along
What do you see now
In the darkness of open mouths
Where not a thing
No nouns, no vowels
Can be pulled up from the depths
Of a voice with no sound.
