New Version of Me

I feel like a different version of myself
Probably because there's new elements to me now
Some unfortunate realizations lead me down a different path
And some important ones got me on a much better track
I realized the value of life and what it means to be alive
How you can choose to let things kill you or make a choice to survive
There's something profound about that flash before your eyes
That can cause you to see your life in a whole new light
You can't control circumstance but you can control how you deal with it
You can decide to let it define you or figure out how to heal from it
You can take easy solutions or do what you know is right
And show the world including yourself what can be done if you fight
I don't have time to be mad about the past
About the situations I put myself in, about misery that seemed to last
The toll it took is an undeniable fact
But it is up to me to manage the impact
To make sure that I don't go back
And to make the best of what I do have
See ever since I've been made aware of how and where I went wrong
I know that what's important is that foundation I build stays strong
And since it feels good to me to pick up and place the blocks
I know I'll ensure that this lifestyle never stops
