What I Am
It's nice to be called essential
But is my wage hike temporary
When every body is deemed safe
Do I go back to just contrary
Will they remember I was special
Keep their signs up on the lawn
Honking horns to show respect
Or just dismiss me with a yawn
I'll still rise before the sun
Chance my nervous, racking drive
But will it matter to the masses
If no one they knew was kept alive
Oh I suppose I should find value
Within myself, and not need other's
Besides, they're tired of the battle
Disdain for inconvenient smothers
For now I'm still called essential
I'll feel more needed while I can
And hang on to my fleeting hope
They'll remember what I am
But is my wage hike temporary
When every body is deemed safe
Do I go back to just contrary
Will they remember I was special
Keep their signs up on the lawn
Honking horns to show respect
Or just dismiss me with a yawn
I'll still rise before the sun
Chance my nervous, racking drive
But will it matter to the masses
If no one they knew was kept alive
Oh I suppose I should find value
Within myself, and not need other's
Besides, they're tired of the battle
Disdain for inconvenient smothers
For now I'm still called essential
I'll feel more needed while I can
And hang on to my fleeting hope
They'll remember what I am
