In The Midst Of It All

The road behind me has been battered
Blazed from the tiresome journey
Shoes have been worn, torn
Dark skies at times poured rain
My naked skin I shivered in the cold
The path in front of me
No finish line for eyes to take comfort
Absences of landmarks to determine if I ventured off course
Unanchored shores drifting my buoyance
My intellect shifted from learning to being taught
Melanin wisdom placed at the back of the bus
Questions shuffled aside, answers researched to prove
Inhaled on hopes
Exhaled on dreams
Closed eyes as a scholar
Opened them to the Master of my fate
Quicksand dreams in the midst of it all
Snarled by the tree of life
To cling onto this ordained day in history

Congratulations SKC... for a beautiful finish... this day is dedicated to ma mère
