Skimming stones
“Consciousness is the stone that creates the waves in a sea of nothing”-Richard Gerber
I never could
I had to try
I had to practice
so I didn't come with you
to the fair ground
I had to find
smooth flat stones
and throw them
again
and again
making a stone
jump on water
as if it was harder
to sink
than to bounce
on the surface making
ripple
after ripple
extending out
in figures of eight
across the surface
of the lake
black, white and green
reflections wavering
and me throwing
thinking about nothing
but the flick of my wrist
and
stones
I never could
I had to try
I had to practice
so I didn't come with you
to the fair ground
I had to find
smooth flat stones
and throw them
again
and again
making a stone
jump on water
as if it was harder
to sink
than to bounce
on the surface making
ripple
after ripple
extending out
in figures of eight
across the surface
of the lake
black, white and green
reflections wavering
and me throwing
thinking about nothing
but the flick of my wrist
and
stones
