Happiness
Happiness is an elusive creature,
a ghostly apparition without substance
Ancient man birthed an idea
that solidified into a concept
which morphed into a precious treasure
"I MUST have this wonderful thing! -- though I cannot define it.
see it, taste it, weigh it,
nor hold it in the palm of my hand"
Happiness is a seductive temptress
She beckons with a sensuous whisper, yet
Gaze too long or too hard in her direction
and she shyly fades into the shadows
So I go on with life
and leave Happiness to her games and subtle pleasures
Perhaps one day she will deign to walk beside me for a little while
Perhaps not -
she is quite the capricious little bitch.
