Love and Young Girls
The young woman
At the coffee stands
Looks like the daughter
Of someone
I wanted once.
And so after several weeks
I have come to want her,
This apple cheeked girl.
The higher brain
Screams, “Run, Insanity, doom!”
But the lizard brain
Says, “’let fires rage at close of day!’
And consequences be damned!”
In my youth
I drank apple wine
Straight from the bottle
Cold and sweet and fizzy.
With the passage of years
I have come to appreciate
The subtleties, the complexities
Of a well aged Bordeaux.
But this year
The madness of spring
And the fear of death
Have created a mighty thirst
For apple wine.
