We Might Have Strength for Today

Sometimes a soul  
is like a beaten donkey
 
unable to speak  
for itself  
 
until the bitter blows
are near too much to bear
 
Sometimes we all
must wonder  
 
at what point  
is too much  
too much to take  
 
but if that point is passed
the spirit will escape
 
yet until that point
for  all around  
 
we must fight for life  
and love and friends  
 
If peace does not  
evade us
 
it will be  
all the better
 
and we’ll linger
many, many days
