TYPEWRITER BLUES

i do not miss
the typer, friends,
corona
rem
or ibm
and how the paper
filled the bin
until it flowed
over the rim
and made a pile
upon my floor

i just don't need that
anymore

so Burroughs
used his typer still
and Buk typed, too,
my shelf is filled
with those who rattled on, but still
i won't give up
ballpoint for quill

no, i prefer
these keys to those
use bits and bytes
to compose
and edit right here
on the screen

the mind is frayed
but the floor is clean

no white out
tape
nor carbon here
no ribbon
stains my fingers, dear
no reams of paper
stacked and such
for i correct
with just a touch
and then my piece
is quick dispatched,
no need for stamps,
i just attach
and send it on
up through the line

it's in the cloud
let's drink some wine

Author's Note
There is, of course, the occasional crash.
Malfunctions.
Lost flash drives.
I've got old stuff on floppy discs. Remember those? My laptop doesn't.
But then it checks my spelling.
So I love it.
