A Symphony of Shrieks

Wailing in the distance
The shrieks of a dying heart
Trying to be dignified
After love tore it apart

Howling in the darkness
As the night provides a screen
Running from the humiliation
Hoping to not be seen

Crying in the moonlight
As midnight comes creeping in
Wishing I was invisible
As my head begins to spin

Degraded by the embarrassment
Of the heart worn on my sleeve
Telling you words straight from my heart
Words you refuse to believe

Flirting with the notion
That maybe one day I'll be seen
Aching as my heart drips tears
Because of what could have been

Blocking out the shrieks
Of a permanently wounded heart
Still the love lies deep within me
Stronger than it did from the start

Wishing I was someone
Who could fill your heart with joy
But I know I'll never be that one
And my heart you won't employ...
