A Curse called Empathy
Always the shoulder, and always the ear,
Always trying to make problems disappear.
Even if they aren’t yours, you always care too much,
Even when counsel is the only reason some people are in touch.
Always the shoulder, and always the ear,
Always trying to make problems disappear.
Even though it drains you, you still try,
Must lift the spirits of others, and you can’t explain why.
Always the shoulder, and always the ear,
Still trying to make problems disappear.
Other peoples’ weight, as well as your own on your heart,
Always patching everyone up when they fall apart.
Though most times, you dry your own tears,
And you and you alone struggle with your pain & fears.
Feeling emotions that aren’t your own,
Surrounded, but you always feel alone.
Always the shoulder, always the ear...
But sometimes you just wish you had someone here.
