Do we ever learn?

Ignorance is bliss, intelligence is misery,
We learn from mistakes, take a look at history,
We fought, we died, but we fought yet again,
War is never ending, no one ever wins,
Yet without a clear victor, the fight must go on,
It’s a cycle of destruction, peace is long gone,
What did we learn then, from our past mistakes?
We killed one another, regardless of the stakes,

But we never felt the need to change,
We figured it was worth the risks,
Now we count the losses and the gains,
What do we think will come of this?

Never say never, but you’ve already broke the rule,
One man’s teacher is always another man’s fool,
We look to others, in hopes of finding advice,
But we don’t ever listen, until our hope dies,
Then we’re left with nothing, running to the doors,
But we can’t find the handles, we can’t leave anymore
We beat the doors, praying we can bring them down,
But they don’t ever budge, what do we do now?

Cause we never felt the need to change,
We figured it was worth the risks,
We ignore the losses, only count the gains,
What do we think can come of this?

We call upon the hopeless, attempt to give them hope,
But we all end up hanging from the end of the rope,
As we sway with the wind, we realize what we’ve done,
We haven’t stopped the fighting, but finally, we’ve won
