The President

The President

The President of the United States sits uncomfortably in his private room at Camp David.
He lets out a deep breath and gulps down some spit feeling isolated.
He keeps looking at the cold codes listed for him on the biscuit fearing what he must do.
His aid stands outside the room near the door holding onto the nuclear football waiting for his cue.
The government as its been known is gone, all members assassinated on live TV during the state of the union address by a rouge terrorist group.
The people of the nation fear for the future and don’t hold much hope.
The President himself was killed on live TV, only it was him but his body double going down in his place as planned.
Once his job is complete, he will be allowed to live out his life in a dangerous new land.
But what is the point of continuing the life after ushering in a nuclear apocalypse?
When it comes to the President, the sun that once shined bright over his life has become completely eclipsed.

He’s not sure he can do it, call in the codes to bomb American cities.
Peoples deaths will be on his hands, far too many.
He looks at the list of cities to be bombed,
and wishes he would just drop dead and go to the great beyond.
New York City, New York.
Los Angeles, California.
Dallas, Texas.
Miami, Florida.
Chicago. Illinois.
Washington D.C.
All set to be bombed.
He’s the man picked to call it in.

“It looks like you are having a hard time doing what must be done Mr. President.”

The President turns around in his chair and comes face to face with the Strange man standing behind him.
Just want he needed with this day already looking far too grim.

The President speaks, “Why are you here?
Want to see first-hand the torment I have to endure?
This is a terrible task I have to carry out.
Forgive me for having a little doubt.”

“Forgiving is not my job.
Nor is keeping you alive if I decide to expose that you are still alive and turn you over to an angry mob.
This is my plan you need to put the finishing touches on.
I’m here to make sure that it gets done.
George followed my orders without question during September eleven.
Barack did the same with all the mass shootings I ordered and did so like it was his obsession.
John was the last one to disobey me and it cost him his life.
You don’t want me to have to take you out right here and now without the chance of saying goodbye to your wife.”

“Just give me a minute and I’ll do as you demand.
Today you will see the conclusion of your grand plan.”

“You have spent your entire political career doing what I tell you so shouldn’t be hesitating now.
Honestly, hesitating his something I generally don’t allow.
Call your aid in here now and finish the plan!
Or I will replace you with a more obedient man.”

The President looks at the strange man with contempt, hating the fact he has followed him his entire career.
The strange man really does control the world, that is very clear.
The President wishes he could stand up to him and do the right thing,
but he should have done that back in the spring when he was told of this plan.
Now its too late, the world has already changed forever for the worst.
Thanks to The President, the world has been forever cursed.

The President calls his aid into the room.
The aid walks in slowly sensing doom.
The President takes the nuclear football from him and calls in the codes.
With the pressure being applied to him by the strange man, he’s no longer stuck at a crossroad.

A short time later, the bombs begin to fall,
all because of his call.
Multiple mushroom clouds form over American cities ushering in a new era.
The President sits in his chair internally destroyed wishing he would have given his life to chimera.
Following the strange man was the wrong choice.
He has ruined the world listening to his charismatic voice.

The President finally gets up from his chair and tells his aid its time to flee and go into hiding.
The dropping of the bombs is the last thing he will ever be deciding.
He is sure the guilt of going through with this plan will be the death of him.
Or someone will discover who he really is one day by seeing through his new fake pseudonym.

The strange man smiles from the room as the President leaves with his head hanging low.
The world has just been delivered a death blow.
