I Don't Understand

I see a rock group hit it big
They became a huge success
In a hot tub with beauty queens
And yet still, none the less
I hear them talking suicide
Confusing, I must confess
Floating in fame and money
And still they are a hot mess
 
What chance do we have?
Come on. Give me a break
If living your dreams don't do it
What does it take?
They got the money
They got the honeys
They got the fame
Hell, everyone knows their name
They got everything they ever wanted
Still they want to commit suicide just the same
 
I know dealing with living takes a toll on your mind
And it helps to be creative in ways hard to define
But if all I did was read depression all day
Even I, who am happy, would throw my life away
 
Anthony Bourdain was a chef, a writer, and got to travel the world
He was living the good life, eating great food, and he even got the girl
He had battled cocaine addiction and said he won that war
He still smoked weed and drank but his biggest addiction by far
He was addicted to depression, you could feel it in his show
It's easy to give in to the one thing you know
 
What chance do we have?
Come on. Give me a break
If living your dreams don't do it
What does it take?
If you surround yourself with depressing things
That's all you're gonna see
It's OK to write about it
But read what you want to be
 
I've gotta be honest with you
I don't understand
