Demons
I tried bid to my demons farewell,
N they laughed in my face
N they said that they'd follow me
All the damned way until hell.
So I prayed to our Lord to be saved
And as he turned his back
He had nothin' to say
I could tell by the look on his face.
All my friends n my family have left
Through the blood, sweat n tears
Sure I gave them the years
That I honestly thought were my best.
Now I substitute promises with lies
Or that's what I might in response to enquiry
Never works though as hard as I try.
Seems my list of excuses expired
All the words I'd rehearsed
Had out welcomed their worth
And appears within age became tired.
Weathered n wearied from life
It's now too many times
I've just turned out the lights
With my head in my hands sat n cried.
Though I'd rather my whispers
Fall silent to listeners
And perhaps keep a fragment of pride
For there's no need to speak of the demons that frequent
The darkness I mask with a smile.
N they laughed in my face
N they said that they'd follow me
All the damned way until hell.
So I prayed to our Lord to be saved
And as he turned his back
He had nothin' to say
I could tell by the look on his face.
All my friends n my family have left
Through the blood, sweat n tears
Sure I gave them the years
That I honestly thought were my best.
Now I substitute promises with lies
Or that's what I might in response to enquiry
Never works though as hard as I try.
Seems my list of excuses expired
All the words I'd rehearsed
Had out welcomed their worth
And appears within age became tired.
Weathered n wearied from life

The darkness I mask with a smile.
