A Ditty for Pharaoh
A circling murder far above
grows grey and grim,
a gaping sinkhole in the sky.
The Nile’s blue tongue
becomes a bloody lash,
your cattle gaunt and thin
and stung
And why?
Because you’ve sinned,
because you never let us go
despite our cries to be released
from bonds of slavery
our god is angry now.
Listen! Hear! the tolling bell
that he has rung.
it’s the destroyer’s knell for you --
the final round’s begun.
And look, kohl eyes,
you chrome-domed son of Ra,
our god has taken off his gloves.
grows grey and grim,
a gaping sinkhole in the sky.
The Nile’s blue tongue
becomes a bloody lash,
your cattle gaunt and thin
and stung
And why?
Because you’ve sinned,
because you never let us go
despite our cries to be released
from bonds of slavery
our god is angry now.
Listen! Hear! the tolling bell
that he has rung.
it’s the destroyer’s knell for you --
the final round’s begun.
And look, kohl eyes,
you chrome-domed son of Ra,
our god has taken off his gloves.
