inclusiveness, civil disobedience, and rebellion on one particular hot July afternoon
escaping the heat down at
the public benches by the
river as the day pants like
a thirsty dog
the waters move as easily
as the thoughts of the
dead
Canadian geese bob up
and down in the water
a father helps his small
daughter with her fishing
pole as she thinks dandelion
thoughts
a breeze blows in from the
river and breaks up the
heat nicely
my mind is as empty as a
cracked egg shell as I take
it all in
two benches down from
me a man sits with a guitar
and plays disjointed
rhythms on strings fighting
to stay in tune
he stops
takes out a small flask of
something pure, looks
around to make sure no one
is watching and takes a
hit while I sit and smoke
two behaviors deemed
undesirable in public and
shunned by a world that
values inclusiveness
we nod to each other that
all is good and that we are
inclusive of one another
with that done, we lean
back, relaxed, feeling
quite satisfied with our
small victory over this
present world
the heavens tremble
at our rebellion
