Silence
It's silent now
All the fight has gone out of
Each of us
And we sit in inconsolable discontent
At where things ended tonight
Things were said
Accusations flung back and fro
And I wonder
(not for the first time)
If this night was that proverbial straw
With the power to break the back
Of this unwise coupling
For good
I hope for the best
And try not to smile
I'm just too tired to fight
Anymore
It's the silence of new freedom
All the fight has gone out of
Each of us
And we sit in inconsolable discontent
At where things ended tonight
Things were said
Accusations flung back and fro
And I wonder
(not for the first time)
If this night was that proverbial straw
With the power to break the back
Of this unwise coupling
For good
I hope for the best
And try not to smile
I'm just too tired to fight
Anymore
It's the silence of new freedom
