GROWING PAINS

FAMILY
PASSING DOWN THEIR ABUNDANCE
THEY'LL SAY
YOU REMIND ME OF YOUR MOTHER
SO HERE GOES YOUR MOTHERS PAIN
SINCE THEY HATE HER
THEY HATE YOU THE SAME
CARRY THE WEIGHT OF YOUR FATHER
IN YOUR BACKPACK TO SCHOOL WITH YOU
HOLDING ONTO NOBODY TO BACK YOU
SHOULD YOUR HAIR BE TOO THICK
YOU’RE TOO DIFFICULT TO MANAGE
ONLY MYSELF TO DEAL WITH THE DAMAGE
THEY’RE SAYING
I KNOW THE BOYS ARE PREYING
THEY’LL CALL OUT MEMORIES OF MY MOTHERS PAST
AS IF SHE DOESN’T ALREADY REMIND ME
YELLING,
YOU’RE JUST LIKE ME

NOT SEEING ME, CLEARLY
LEAVING ME
TO FULFILL THEIR LEGACY
NOT FREEING ME
MY FAMILY TREE
ROOTS
ROTTING
