Image for the poem Breakfast

Breakfast

Plummeting straight down
Razor sharp claws encasing
Turtle dove captured

Hungry beak rending
Gobbets of flesh devoured
Hunter now gorging

Skeletal cracking
Downy feathers fly around
Carcass disappears

Finally finished
He preens and cleans his feathers
Sharp glances and gone

Author's Note
Saw this hawk feasting in my backyard this morning. When he was done only a pile of feathers remained.
