Faith(less)
She came to me
years ago
softly whispering
in my ear
Her truth
Her rules
for saving
absolution
Her mock smile
and coquettish glances
drawing me to her warmth
like kids to the candy man
But She was a prize
a gift
never meant for me.
I wasn’t blessed
Magic
is only magic
If you refuse
the reality
When I looked up
hoping to behold her beauty
I discovered
She wasn’t there
This lass was
never with me
I trudged on
alone
These footprints in the sand belonged only to me
