ISABELLA

Our Grandson Cameran, a handsome young fella
has just had a sister Mum named Isabella
he loves her to pieces although he plays rough
there’ll be no more siblings, Mum says “Two’s enough”

so she’ll have to play soldiers, rugby, climb trees
come home to mum with cuts on her knees
knock her Bamp’s nails down into the lawn
plastic saw in one hand holding wood she has “sawn”

she’ll want to help Nan, just as Cameran did before
bake cakes in the oven hearing “Don’t touch the door”
only flour and water, they bake really hard
just to feed birds out in the back yard

being left with us while they shop in the rain
we don’t mind a bit, it’s their loss and our gain
she’ll bounce on our knee’s and pull funny faces
no amount of money could make us change places

if it did there would be no walks in the pram
where we’d show her off  looking all “Glam”
no walks in the park to paddle in the pool
on hot summer days, just to keep her cool

no walks on the common with her older brother
and when we’re worn out, hand them back to Mother
so we’ll turn down the cash and stay as we are
keeping the child is much better by far

we’ll rid her of wind, warm her bottles of milk
take soiled nappies off her bum soft of silk
just as we did with the five gone before
yet another grandchild for us to adore
