Tribulation of a Tree

Hey Man, please
Don't cut me
Don't lop me
Don't trim me
It hurts me

My branches are my arms
Leaves are my nerves
Their abundance is my wealth
And exuberance is my health
My leaves are cast in draught
So I could live for longer
In spring they loom and bloom
To blush me with fruits n flower
Please, don't lop my leaves
Don't cut my branches
It makes me quiver,
It makes me bleed.

Children play and swing on my arms
Fills my heart with abundant charm
Bird's chirping n singing,
makes me merry, thrilled n warm
I realise my dream, when see people
rests under me, in scorching days
I feel happy when you savor fruits
and adorn my flowers on special days

But, I loose my grace
When you prune my leaves,
I loose my posture
When you lop  my branches
Hey man,
Just love me and
care for me
Let me flourish and see how beautiful I grow
Relish my blossom and radiance I throw
It hurts, when you prune me.
It hurts, when you cut me.

Author's Note
This poem is inspired from the "Theory of Nervous system of plant" by  Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose, a Botanist, Biophysicist and Biologist, and recieipient of Awards of CIE and CSI on living nature of plants. He used his own invention, the crescograph, to measure plant response to various stimuli, and scientifically proved parallelism between animal and plant tissues. To facilitate his research, he constructed automatic recorders capable of registering extremely slight movements; these instruments produced some striking results, such as quivering of injured plants, which Bose interpreted as a power of feeling in plants. His books include Response in the Living and Non-Living (1902) and The Nervous Mechanism of Plants (1926).
