Fire Safety
You have no business telling someone
to calm down
If you are the one that
ignited their fury
That’s like setting a flame
to an open field of dead brush
and then asking the flames
if they mind just quietly
putting themselves out
No, life doesn’t work that way
If you wanted to play with fire,
you should have been more careful
You set the match...
I suggest you get the
fire extinguisher
or pray for rain
to calm down
If you are the one that
ignited their fury
That’s like setting a flame
to an open field of dead brush
and then asking the flames
if they mind just quietly
putting themselves out
No, life doesn’t work that way
If you wanted to play with fire,
you should have been more careful
You set the match...
I suggest you get the
fire extinguisher
or pray for rain

Dear J,
“or pray for rain” wise beyond measure. Many things irritate me but none more than someone saying calm down. It’s offensive and obnoxious and the best way to a punch in the nose after it’s said.
You’ve laid this out splendidly. Great write. H🌷

Yup, no one's feelings should be invalidated. People who tell someone to calm down don't realize it has the exact opposite effect, it makes those flames burn even higher. Even if they aren't the ones who started the problem, in stressful moments it's just an unhelpful statement period, in my opinion. Excellent work.

Ouch!
Peter Steele once wrote, "Is there no difference between woman and fire??"
The old saying that men are from Mars and woman is from Venus has more truth to it than anything else. Mars is cold, Venus is a raging inferno.
Even the toughest hardest man is nothing to an angry woman. The only flames I'd ever stimulate in a woman are those that lead to fireworks and supernovas in the bedroom. Life's way too short to play around with the other kind.
I'll leave you to cool off for a bit. Its getting hot in here.
