Oppression Matters

Who is a king in his castle?
Is it you?
Is it me?

Did my father feel
police brutality?

Should it matter less
because of his pedigree
as a cracker-flavored serf?

As a homeless man
in Idaho with only his car
to sleep inn

Should it matter less
If a harlot is murdered
in the street

vs a woman in her
her home?

Should we march
based on the
victim and what they
appeared like

or on the habits
of the aggressor?

If black lives
mattered less
the media
wouldn’t ignore

other minorities
in favor
of black lives matter

If Asian Lives
Mattered equally
to black lives

Why do they feel
so abandoned?

When people get
lumped up

in bias labels
against them

(being called
“society”
when they are
individuals)

Their oppression
and feelings
go unheard

Skin does not give
advantage alone
disabilities
illness
impoverishment

and oppression
have been felt
all around

We should
empathize
with and defend
each other

I remember the days
when multiple minorities
stood together
for each other

We should do that
...again
